Learning to drive is one of the most important events in a young person's life and as soon as they turn 17 they are keen to get behind the wheel. On the other hand, many parents are reluctant to allow their children to practice in their cars because of the cost of the insurance or the worry that their no-claims bonus could be at risk but you can now purchase a seperate insurance policy in the name of the learner driver.

Driving Lessons and Practice

The Driving Standards Agency actively supports a balance of professional tuition and a minimum 22 hours of private practice with friends or family before taking the practical driving test. Driving lessons alone are not usually enough and this additional practice is important. This can be with a family member or friend - the more practice that a driver gets before the test, the better and the safer they will be.
